Major Chinese Companies Stepping Up their Efforts for AI Dominance

The Artificial Intelligence(AI) industry is the most heavily focuses tech industry in China right now. It is because China aims to become the leading country in Artificial Intelligence all over the world by 2025. The Chinese Government is backing all the efforts of the tech giants to do extensive research works and make breakthroughs using AI technologies. The Chinese tech giants namely Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, and Xinhua have been investing heavily in the AI industry to fuel research and innovation.

China Tech Giants and Artificial Intelligence Industry –

AI is trending the most in the tech industry across the world, and more and more tech giants across the world are joining the race. Starting from Microsoft to Amazon as well as Alphabet which is the parent company of Google is in the race to lead the industry worldwide. That is why the Chinese tech giants are gearing up to leave no space to the competitors on a global scale. Last year, Alibaba AI chip was introduced which is based on Artificial Intelligence. In 2017, Tencent introduced AI-based healthcare facilities as well as Tencent AI Lab.

The other Chinese tech giants like Baidu introduced Baidu Apollo project which is a man-less car project based on AI. They are very aggressive and want to bring the car into the market by 2021. Another major player Xinhua has built an AI cloud computing center, and they want to expand further. The following is the brief look at the significant investments carried out by the Chinese tech giants in the AI field for rapid growth and creating trends for the world to follow.

Alibaba – Alibaba is currently the most successful Chinese company on AI-based developments. Alibaba AI Chip is a popular product. They are now widely used in autonomous vehicles and smart devices such as AI-based robots. These AI-based robots are used in hospitals and commercial buildings. Moreover, they have customer service agents that employ artificial intelligence to serve the customers effectively.

Tencent – Tencent is the world’s largest gaming company, and it has been employing AI in games for decades now. However, it is now focusing on extending its service to other products and services. In 2017, Tencent launched Miying which is an AI-based platform to help in managing records and database for the patients and employees automatically and efficiently. In the same context, Tencent AI Lab deserves a special mention.

Baidu – Baidu had had a rough patch in the last few years, but it is emerging as a leader in the AI industry as far as complete and innovative products go. The company started focusing on the AI industry back in 2014 when it hired the top AI engineer Andrew Ng from Google. Even since then, it has been introducing various AI features in its products and service.

But the most significant AI development from the company has to be its Baidu Apollo project. The project is about designing a man-less car and creating a customization platform for autonomous vehicles. The company is highly aggressive about the project and wants the launch the car as soon as 2021.

Xinhua – Xinhua is the first tech giant to build the first AI cloud computing center in China. Earlier this month, the company announced to set up its second AI cloud computing center in Baoding. Xinhua wants to set up such center across China, and there are plans to expand beyond the borders to become a market leader in and around China.

Conclusion –
China AI dominance by 2025 all over the world is the main aim of the tech giants. Therefore, they are putting all in to boost AI research and innovative works. They not only want to follow the current trends but also create trends in the AI field for the rest of the world to follow. Apart from tech giants, various non-tech companies are investing in the AI industry.
