
Tencent Holdings China’s largest video game publisher has enhanced the gaming experience by selling real products and merchandise. It is common for a game developer to sell virtual goods through character skins, to attract more players. Tencent’s popular title Honour of Kings has partnered with Honk Kong-based jewellery chain Chow Sang Sang. They now offer gold and silver accessories based on popular characters of the game.
Merchandise and jewellery products based on the five heroes of Honour of Kings are being sold online by Chow Sang Sang as part of Valentine’s day special offers and campaign. A bracelet with a gold pendant of Daji, a popular character from the game Honour of Kings is the most valuable in terms of money. The bracelet is priced at 1,980 yuan( US $ 292). Apart from the Jewellery store, the video game is also liaised with a popular Canadian cosmetic brand M.A.C.
Five co-branded lipsticks whose shades matched the lipstick shade used by the female characters of the game were launched. The lipsticks were an instant sell out. By the year 2017 Honour of Kings had over 100 million female players. In spite of slowdown, Honour of kings has been a money churning venture for Tencent Holdings.
